Corpus troporum 4: Tropes de l'Agnus Dei
Gunilla Iversen
The present volume is a part of the Corpus Troporum editions of liturgical tropes
to the songs of the roman mass from the period from the tenth up to the twelfth cen
tury. It consists of three different parts: 1. A critica l ed itio n of the texts of the Agnus
Dei tropes. 2. A n in v e n to ry of the entire repertories of Agnus Dei tropes with their locali
sation and rubrics and the structure of each single trope in the manuscripts used in the
edition. 3. A h isto ric a l b a c k g r o u n d a n d a s tu d y of the form and the function of Agnus
Dei tropes as reflected in the manuscripts.
For the edition and for the inventory we have worked out special methods, applicable
also to other Ordinary tropes: in the edition the texts are presented as whole entities
with all the trope elements connected with the same trope given together. In a table
to each trope is indicated the number of elements and the order of the elements in every
source; in the inventory we present all the different ways to combine liturgical base text
and trope text found in the material. By this double instrument it is possible to distinguish
separate traditions where the form and the function of the Agnus Dei tropes are different.
Thus these two parts form the base for the third part of the volyme: the analytic study
of the Agnus Dei tropes.
